Özet

This study investigated the effectiveness of an occupational therapy-based self-management program (OT-SMP) on the knowledge, insight, medication adherence, clinical symptoms, functioning, and quality of life (QOL) of people with schizophrenia. Forty-eight clients attended OT-SMP, including psychoeducation and individualized sessions once a week for 12 weeks, in addition to routine treatment. After OT-SMP, there were significant improvements in knowledge, insight awareness, medication adherence, clinical symptoms, functioning, and QOL. Furthermore, both the 6-month and 12-month follow-ups maintained these achievements. Study findings demonstrate the importance of implementing person-tailored and goal-oriented structured interventions by occupational therapists to support people with illness management problems.
