Özet
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is an important disease due to its complicated and common morbidities. Diabetes has many complications, one of which is diabetic foot infections. The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological, clinical and microbiological aspects of diabetic foot infections and to determine the factors affecting the outcomes of diabetic foot infections at a tertiary hospital between the dates January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2017. Materials and Methods: The study was retrospective and data of patients were obtained by scanning the files electronically. Results: Total of 96 patients participated in this study. Seventy-nine patients were evaluated for osteomyelitis, and 37 patients had osteomyelitis. The tissue cultures were obtained from thirty patients, and there was microbial growth in tissue cultures of 20 patients. The most frequently isolated bacteria were Acinetobacter baumannii, Proteus mirabilis and Staphylococcus spp. Discussion: Infections secondary to resistant bacteria may lead to prolonged length of stay and may reduce success of the treatment. Due to resistant bacterial colonization, broad spectrum antibiotics are used in the diabetic foot infections. In this study, we found that bacterial infection resistance was correlated with morbidity. Therefore, foot care in diabetic patients is important to reduce cost and drug resistance.
