Özet
Cerebral venous thrombosis in children is rare, and the symptoms and signs are nonspecific especially in the neonatal period. The incidence of cerebral venous thrombosis is estimated to be 0.67 cases per 100,000 children per year. The neonates are the most commonly affected age group and perinatal cerebral sinovascular thrombosis, principally affecting the lateral and superficial lateral venous sinuses, has been reported at 0.4 cases per thousand live births. Risk factors for cerebral venous thrombosis are perinatal complications, dehydratation, infection, chronic systemic disease and prothrombotic disorders. We report a case of a 21 day old-male who was brought to out hospital because of severe crying and irritability. He was born at term to a 18-year-old gravida 1, para 1 mother by spontaneous vaginal delivery at home. In physical examination, lethargy, severe dehydration and seizures were found. Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Angiography revealed cerebral venous thrombosis with intraventicular hemorrhage, and a low level of antithrombin III and hypernatremic dehydration were found as underlying risk factors.
