Özet
This research note explores the potential of Alfred North Whitehead's process philosophy as a lens for understanding complex adaptive systems (CAS). Through a qualitative theoretical analysis, we propose that Whitehead's concepts—actual occasions, nexus, prehension and concrescence—offer a relational and processual perspective to complement existing complexity science approaches. By examining examples from biology, we illustrate how this framework highlights the dynamic, relational nature of CAS. Compared to holistic traditions like Ancient Greek and Chinese philosophy, Whitehead's ontology uniquely emphasizes events and relational synthesis, providing novel insights for future research in complexity science. This perspective invites further exploration of CAS dynamics across disciplines.
