Özet

Objective: In this study, we correlated the transvaginal sonohysterographically measured endometrial thickness to the endometrial histopathology. Study design: In 61 patients with abnormal uterine bleeding, pathological examinations were performed in the tissue samples which were obtained by endometrial curettage following transvaginal sonohysterography (TVSHG). Results: Endometrial thickness was 8.26±2.40 mm in 15 cases with abnormal histopathologic findings and 4.30±1.89 mm in 46 cases without abnormal histopathologic findings. Difference was significant between the two groups (p<0.01) 'Cut-off' value was calculated as 6 mm using Reciever Operating Characteristics curve. This value had a sensitivity of 73 %, specificity of 72 % positive predictive value of 68.4 %, and negatif predictive value of 95 %. Only 3.3 % of patients with endometrium thinner than 6 mm had endometrial hyperplasia. Conclusion: TVSHG is a good and reliable method in the diagnosis of functional or pathological changes of uterine cavity. As a non-invasive method, TVSHG is a good alternative to the invasive methods, such as hysteroscopy and endometrial curettage.
