Özet
Root malformations can occur as a result of various genetic and environmental factors. Problems that occur during root development may be due to infection, trauma, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Molar incisor malformation or molar incisor root malformation, a recently described dental anomaly, is characterized by root malformation of permanent first molars. It can also affect primary second molars and maxillary permanent central incisors. Molar incisor root malformation or molar incisor malformation has been associated with abnormal formation of tooth roots due to exposure to different environmental factors in early childhood. Molars have normal crown morphology but can be diagnosed by radiography, whereas crown morphology is affected in incisors among the teeth with this anomaly. Caries, infection and periodontal disease can be seen in these teeth without any caries or crown deformity. The first option for treatment may be extracting these teeth at the right time and maintaining the second permanent molar into this space. Although it is stated that endodontic treatment is very difficult due to malformed roots and calcified pulpal condition, there are different case reports in which current clinical and radiographic diagnosis and treatment methods are applied. The aim of this review is to evaluate molar incisor malformation in the light of current literature.
