Özet
Literature reveals that ERW has the ability to prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress. The study was conducted to investigate the effect of ERW administration on blood glucose, insulin, antioxidant enzymes level, histology of pancreas, liver, and kidney in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Thirty Wistar male rats were divided into five groups. Group 1 received DW dose 20 mL/kg/day, group 2 received ERW 20 mL/kg/day, group 3: glibenclamide (0.5 mg/kg) and DW, group 4: glibenclamide (0.5 mg/kg) and ERW, and group 5 received glibenclamide (0.5 mg/kg) and vitamin E (3.6 IU) for 28 days. Administration of ERW, both alone and in combination with glibenclamide, resulted in significant (p< 0.05) lowering of blood glucose, increased insulin level, and reduced oxidative stress. There are no damaging effects in the tissues of the pancreas, liver, and kidney. The ERW potentiates the effect of the hypoglycemic agent against streptozotocin-induced diabetes in rats.
