Özet
Women can benefit from massage therapy in any period of their lives, or they can get massage therapy support blended with specific techniques specific to pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods. For the positive pregnancy experience of pregnant women, massage in the prenatal period contributes to the increase in physical and psychosocial health. Compared to developed countries, pregnancy massage practice in Turkey has not been fully accepted exactly in society even though professionals has begun to specialize in this area nowadays. In the international literature, there are academic studies and practice examples indicating that pregnant women massage is applied to low and high risk pregnant women by midwives and nurses, and that this application is integrated into obstetrics services. For the positive pregnancy experience of pregnant women, massage in the prenatal period contributes to the increase in physical and psychosocial healthMidwives and nurses are members of the profession who are active in meeting the basic needs of pregnant women as well as having an active role in the follow-up and care process of women before, during and after birth. Considering this situation, it is thought that pregnant massage should be among the professional practices in our country as in international examples. With this study which is prepared as a review, it is aimed to share the basic information about the pregnant women massage and to give a perspective and creating awareness on our colleagues about ‘pregnancy massage’, which is a new application area for our country. The study is expected to contribute to the midwifery and nursing literature.
