Özet

This study deals with the Bektashi tekkes in Iraq around the letter of Hazim Agâh Efendi from Kars-i Zülkadiriyeli, in other word Kadirlili, who was employed in Baghdad and its surroundings, describing these dervish lodges. Hazim Agâh Efendi's letter is included in the second volume of the ''Bektasi Sirri'' published by Ahmed Rifki in 1910. In his letter, Hazim Agâh Efendi shares his observations and views about tekkes, Dervishes and ''Baba'' in cities around Baghdad - or Iraq and Bagdhad- such as Kazimiye, Najaf and Karbala. In his letter, Hazim Agâh Efendi, who stayed in and around Baghdad for about twenty years, includes topics such as the closure of the dervish lodges, the view of the Ottoman rulers to the dervish lodges and the seizure of the tekkes by 'Naqshbandis''. In addition to these, he conveys the support given to the Bektashi tekke and ''Baba'' by the Kacar khans and the pressure of the Naqshbandi and Shiites together with the Ottoman administration that lost its power. While Hazim Agâh Efendi gives information about the Dervishes and ''Baba(s)'' in Baghdad, Najaf and Kerbela tekkes, he especially devotes a large place to Hüseyin Mazlum Baba. He even included a photo of him in his article. Hüseyin Mazlum Baba was appointed as ''Baba'' by Ali Turabi Dedebaba. As soon as he reached Iraq, he first started his service in Najaf and then came to Baghdad. During his time in Baghdad, he made a great contribution to increasing the income of almost all tekkes and reviving the tekkes. Hüseyin Mazlum Baba especially repaired and revived the Gürgür Baba tekke, increased the foundation income of this lodge, increased the number of foundation shops in the Furniture Dealers Market(Mobilyacilar Carsisi) and expanded their places. During the Mahmut II period, the Bektashi lodges in Iraq had a very difficult time due to the closure of the Bektashi lodges and the prosecution of those who were in the tekke. Later, most of the tekkes were either closed or destroyed. The radical changes that took place during this period gradually reduced all activities of Iraqi Bektashi Lodge. Ultimately, after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Bektashi tekke and its dervishes completely disappeared. Hazim Agâh Efendi is one of the important sources providing detailed information about the Iraqi Bektashi tekkes. Unfortunately, both he and his letter were not sufficiently evaluated.
