Özet
In this prospective, randomized and double-blind study, our aim was to determine the efficiency and safety profile of Polyethylene glycol balanced electrolyte solution (PEG), oral sodium phosphate (NaP) and standart cleansing method before colonoscopy. Therefore, 50 patients undergoing elective colonoscopy were prospectively randomized to receive either oral NaP (n=20) or PEG balanced solutions (n=17) or standart cleansing method (n=13). All patients were able to complete the sodium phosphate preparation, but 3 patients (17%) taking PEG lavage solution and 2 patients (15%) in standart method group failed to complete the preparation because of the side effects such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. When judging taste of solutions, in three groups rated the taste as acceptable and good (NaP group 74%, PEG lavage group 44%, standart method group 72%). In our study, bowel wall visualised more than 75% in 88% of PEG balanced group, 95% of oral NaP group and 23% of standart method group. The quality of colon cleansing for oral NaP solution was better in achieving an excellent (50%) or good (50%) cleansing score compared with the PEG electrolyte lavage (41% and 52%), in standard method group 15% excellent but 77% poor colon cleansing were seen. In conclusion; both PEG and oral NaP can be used in colon cleansing but oral NaP may be prefered as a first drug due to some advantages.
