Özet
Chronic diseases lead to the death of 76.4% of people of the entire world. The main chronic diseases are cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes and cancer. Smoking, alcohol consumption, a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet (malnutrition) are the risk factors which give rise to these diseases. With the invention of the steam engine, the industrial revolution began with bad urbanization and air pollution. As the infectious diseases decreased with the invention of penicillin and its derivatives, the life span of the human increased and catching up with chronic diseases increased in western countries, whereas low- and middle-income countries dealt with infectious illness. However, the world encounters new diseases (especially viral) which affect the world as a pandemic or endemically, such as Covid-19, influenza, bird flu, swine flu, MERS-Cov, HIV and Ebola. Some infectious diseases such as prion diseases have no treatment, and others have an underestimated mortality (tuberculosis, enteric infections, HIV, malaria, African trypanosomiasis, etc.). Communicable disorders reversely constitute almost one-third of all deaths. While one arm is fighting against infectious diseases, another arm should deal with chronic diseases that cause more than twice as many deaths. Health will result from an all-out war against communicable disorders and NCDs.
