Özet

Respiratory depression caused by benzodiazepin is a common problem when used frequently for premedication. In this study, midazolam (0.07 mg/kg IM) and diazepam (0.15 mg/kg IM) were given to patient and net sedation scores were monitored. The effects on blood gases of these drugs were analysed at the same time intervals. The parameters were recorded before and after 5., 10., 30., 60., 90. and 120. minutes at premedication. In the midazolam group PaO2 was 65 mmHg 10 minutes after the injection and sedation was sufficient. In the diazepam group PaO2 was 69.4 mmHg 30. minutes after injection and sedation was not sufficient yet. Sedation was reached to the optimum level at 60. minutes. In the diazepam group 2 patients sedation continued after 120. minutes. In conclusion midazolam (0.07 mg/kg IM) caused respiratory depression like diazepam (0.15 mg/kg). Midazolam is more potent sedative and anxiolytic and less toxic than diazepam. The rapid onset of action, rapid recovery of sedation and anterograde amnesic properties make midazolam a valuable sedative agent for regional anaesthesia.
