Özet
Hypersomnias are one of the group of sleep disorders with the main clinical complaint of excessive day time sleepiness. The third revision of The International Classification of Sleep Disorders (ICSD-3), updated in 2014, has classified central hypersomnias as narcolepsy type 1, narcolepsy type 2, idiopathic hypersomnia, and Kleine-Levin syndrome. Several mechanisms like hypocretin deficiency, genetic factors, autoimmunity, and infections were hypothesized for the physiopathology of central hypersomnias but still the exact reasons for disease come into being are unclear. Further studies for the recognition of the underlying etiology will also bring new insight for the development of new treatment strategies.
