Özet
Emergency departments (EDs) are pivotal units in modern healthcare systems, serving as the initial and crucial point of access to medical care for patients. Each year, millions of individuals visit emergency departments, which must exercise vigilance not only in diagnosis and treatment but also in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases and hazardous contaminants. Patients may be inadvertently exposed to toxic substances or intentionally exposed in suicide attempts. When dealing with patients and areas contaminated by hazardous materials, specialized training and equipment are required for proper procedural management. Prior planning is essential to maintain consistent standards of medical care and emergency department operations in such situations. Inadequate preparedness can lead to costly contamination of emergency departments and other healthcare facilities, as well as an increased risk of exposure to toxic substances for healthcare personnel. Evaluating contamination risks, implementing standard precautions, and intervening in environmental impacts are critical in preventing the spread of contaminants within emergency departments.
