Özet
Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome is a complex and increasingly prevalent condition that affects newborns exposed to opioids and other substances in utero. The syndrome manifests as a constellation of withdrawal symptoms, requiring timely diagnosis and management. The incidence of withdrawal from licit or illicit substances is common among neonates in both developed and developing countries. The pathophysiology of neonatal abstinence syndrome is not yet fully understood. The Finnegan scoring system is used to assess the severity of neonatal abstinence syndrome. Treatment is required after the infant develops severe withdrawal symptoms. Breastfeeding is not contraindicated. This chapter explores the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, evaluation, treatment strategies, and prognosis of neonatal abstinence syndrome. Additionally, potential complications and differential diagnoses are discussed separately. The need for continued research and care for the infant-mother dyad is emphasized.
