Özet
The advancement of technology from the past to the present and the prolongation of time spent at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic have rapidly increased the time spent by children and adolescents with digital media. Depending on media usage habits, this situation brings about some positive and negative effects. Conscious, correct, and purposeful use of media tools makes life easier along with improving creativity and critical thinking. However, the unconscious and uncontrolled use of these tools threatens the health and development of children and adolescents. Nurses have important responsibilities in the conscious use of the media and in the alleviation of its negative effects. Therefore, it is important for nurses to know the effects of the media on children, the risks it has in terms of children's rights, current research on the subject, and recommendations developed by international authorities. In this respect, this review based on current and comprehensive related literature aims to provide information about the effects of the media on children, the recommendations of international organizations, and the roles and responsibilities of nurses. In addition, training on the subject is recommended for nurses and parents.
