Özet

Cellular senescence can be induced in vivo, in vitro, and by a variety of factors that often trigger cellular stress mechanisms. There are several underlying cellular mechanisms in senescence such as DNA damage, oncogenic stress, oxidative stress, chemotherapy, epigenetic alterations, and paracrine effects of senescence-associated secretory phenotype. Senescent cells undergo a variety of changes in gene expression and chromatin organization in addition to cell cycle arrest. These cells begin to secrete a great amount of proinflammatory cytokines, growth factors, proteases, and chemokines. This chapter presents and discusses major cellular mechanisms of aging.
