Özet
Wound healing is complicated by various factors and the patient’s comorbidities. For this reason, effective wound dressings should be applied to the wound, which can ensure rapid healing and stop microbial growth before it spreads to the surrounding tissues and the body. Available dressings are gauze, cotton, hydrogel, etc. It consists of various materials, such as. Recently, the concept of using natural polymers, like chitosan, gelatin, or collages, has been aroused due to their numerous properties, such as accelerated healing process, biocompatibility, cost-effectiveness, and versatility. Chitosan attracts attention as a wound dressing material because of its bacteriostatic and fungistatic features, as well as its film-forming properties. In this chapter, chitosan-based dressings available in the literature will be analyzed with emphasis on different loading agents, such as chitosan nanofibers composed of pure chitosan and blended with other polymers or substances, as well as inorganic additives. Some basic information about wound healing and available wound dressings will also be discussed.
