Özet
Anemia is one of the most frequent finding encountered in clinics. Anemia is not a specific disease, but is a consequence of a pathological process. The increased application of new laboratory tests together with technological developments, easy access to these tests and increase in the number of the patients presenting to ICUs enhanced the volume of blood samples drawn from patients. Laboratory tests are important factors implicated for blood loss in neonatal and intensive care units. Two measures can be taken to prevent blood loss in ICUs resulting from diagnostic tests. These are usage of pediatric tubes and lessening the amount to be taken for arterial blodd gas measurements. If possible one tube must be used for blood samples to be analysed at different laboratories, and after separation of serum portion samples must be distributed to laboratories.
