Özet

We aimed to assess psychiatric symptoms and sleep disturbance in patients with rheumatic pain. 24 fibromyalgia (FM), 21 rheumatoid arthritis (RA), 28 degenerative osteoarthritis (OA) and 28 ankylosing spondylitis (AS) with a total of 101 subjects were included. The clinical and laboratory assessments were conducted and the subjects completed the symptom check list (SCL-90R) and sleep questionnaire. There was no statistical significant difference between the SCL total scores of the 4 groups with regard to obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, personal affairs and fobic anxiety. The somatization disorder was more common in FM than in AS (p<0.05). The scores of difficulties in falling asleep and early morning awakening were similar in all groups, whereas the scores of restless sleep and non-restorative sleep were statistically higher in FM group. Patients with active RA were more depressive than in patients with mild disease activity. Restless sleep and non-restorative sleep scores were also higher in patients with active RA. In conclusion, although they have the least objective clinical findings, symptoms like restless sleep and non-restorative sleep are more common in patients with FM. This indicates the significance of psychologic and somatiform etiologies. Unlike the patients with FM, the sleep disturbance, seen in patients with RA are related with disease activity.
