Özet
Cerebrospinal fluid production begins in the 6th month of pregnancy, it is constantly produced and absorbed, and there is a delicate balance between the two. When this balance is disrupted, hydrocephalus occurs and is one of the most common congenital anomalies. In general, the most common cause of hydrocephalus is aqueduct stenosis. The most common cause of acquired hydrocephalus, especially in preterm infants, is intraventricular hemorrhage. Ultrasound scans performed after the 24th week of pregnancy are very valuable for the diagnosis of hydrocephalus, as the sensitivity of diagnosing ventricular enlargement is 93.5%. There are various treatment modalities for neonatal hydrocephalus. These treatments are applied according to the etiology of the patients, the type of hydrocephalus and the patient's clinic, and the time for intervention is determined. The neurological and intellectual development of patients depend mostly on etiology. While untreated cases are fatal, normal intellectual capacity is found in 40-65% of cases with appropriate treatment.
