Özet

Design: 51 patients with grass pollen-induced respiratory allergic disease, aged 8 to 56 years (mean: 26.2) entered into this study iming to reveal the effectiveness of 'single allergen immunotherapy'. Grass pollen- allergic patients were divided into two groups. 29 of them (single Allergen Group=SAG) were administered immunotherapy with a single grass pollen extract of which skin reaction is greatest in skin prick test (SPT). Allergenic extracts of multiple grass pollens were given to other 22 patient-group ('Multiple Allergen Group'=MAG). At the end of the first year of immunotherapy programme, results were analyzed by means of symptom scores, planimetric SPT calculation and total of IgE levels. Results: At the end of the one-year hyposensitization therapy, we observed that allergic symptom scores decreased in both SAG and MAG (p<0.0001 and p<0.0005, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference in post-treatment symptom scores between two groups (p>0.05). Skin tests were significantly reduced in both groups (p<0.001). But, SAG showed greater reduction (p<0.05. It was also determined that reduction of total IgE levels in SAG was more significant than that in MAG (p<0.005). Conclusion: On the basis of the data obtained from our study reveal that single allergen immunotherapy will provide satisfactory results in grass pollen-allergic patients.
