Özet
This study aims to comprehensively analyse the relationship between the health index, which is one of the sub-dimensions of the Human Development Index (HDI), and the duration of temporary incapacity days resulting from occupational accidents. The study was conducted using secondary data published by the Social Security Institution (SSI) between 2013-2018. The data were analysed by Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using IBM SPSS and AMOS software packages. It was observed that improving the health index in Turkey can be a critical strategic tool in reducing the frequency and severity of occupational accidents. In this way, more effective policies can be developed to protect employee health and prevent occupational accidents. The findings reveal that the health index has a statistically significant and negative effect on the duration of temporary incapacity due to occupational accidents. This shows that improved health services play an important role in reducing the negative effects of occupational accident s, but it also reveals the effect of income and education indices on occupational accidents. The findings of the study show that the relationship between health index and days of temporary incapacity for work is stronger especially in provinces with high HDI levels. It shows that the effects of occupational accidents can be managed more effectively due to the more developed health services in these provinces. At the same time, it is understood that improvements in health services can reduce the effects of occupational accidents in provinces with low level HDI, but this effect may show regional differences..
