Özet

Smoking is widely recognized as the leading preventable cause of mortality and the world's largest epidemic at the moment. Every year, 7 million people worldwide die as a result of smoking-related diseases. Tobacco addiction is a disease, and the majority of smokers are unable to quit on their own. Therapy will be more successful if family physicians play a more active role in the prevention and treatment of smoking addiction. Physicians who will be leading their patients should be confident and knowledgeable about patient interviewing techniques and treatment options. Appropriate recommendations and pharmacotherapy options should be presented to patients to ensure successful smoking cessation. Withdrawal symptoms can be alleviated by adopting a healthy lifestyle, discussing these issues with the physician and seeking a solution, and using pharmacological treatment as needed.
