Özet
Neural tube defect is a clinical malformation that caused by the interruption of the neuralation during the embryogenesis. The incidence of this malformation is 1/10 per 1000 birth. Despite of the high frequency, the etiologic factors are unclear. The experimental studies revealed that the genetic and environmental factors are responsible for the neural tube defect. The insufficiency of folic acid, B12, retinoic acid and zinc had been reported as the causes of the neural tube defect in central nervous system development in early time of pregnancy. So, the nutriments obta med in daily diet are important for the primary and secondary neurulation phases in early emb ryogenesis. Some known intracellular pathways such as "WNT", "Hedgehog" and "Notch" are affected by these nutriments. So, all the genes regulate these pathways may have a role in neural tube defect etiology. Animal model experiments revealed the roles of Hox, cadherins, metil tetra hidrafolat reduktaz and Fax genes in the etiology of neural tube defect. In this manuscript, the pos sible roles of the affected factors, pathways and genes had been summarized in neural tube defect etiology. The genes important for the cell migration, cell to cell interaction, cell proliferation and cell diferantiation in the early embryogenesis phase had been discussed. Also, the further experi ments planned for the future had been mentioned for understanding the neural tube defect. Copyright © 2012 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
