Özet
Primary cough headache strikes suddenly after coughing, straining and/or valsalva maneuver and lasts between one second to 30 minutes. It is most common among ages 40 and older and occurs bilaterally as a sharp, stabbing pain. Organic causes are reported to be about 40%. Therefore possible organic causes should be excluded before diagnosis. Treatment strategies include drugs like carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and procedures that may lower intracranial pressure. In this case we chose topiramate because of its weak carbonic anhydrase inhibition effect and found it effective for the treatment. © Medical Journal of Trakya University.
