Sacral insufficiency fracture in a patient with ulcerative colitis: Case report

Özet
Sacral insufficiency fracture (SIF) is a type of stress fracture that occurs primarily in elderly women without definite trauma history. SIF generally presents as non-specific pelvic or low back pain and is often overlooked. SIFs are secondary to a number of conditions including postmenopausal osteoporosis, steroid-induced osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis, which decrease bone resistance and predispose the development of SIFs. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is recognized as a risk factor for development of osteoporosis, but the occurrence of sacral insufficiency fractures (SIFs) in patients with UC has not previously been well emphasized. We presented here an UC patient with a SIF, who was treated with conservative approach successfully.
