Özet
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. Colorectal tumors are biologically complex, and our current understanding of how these tumors behave probably is limited. Recent developments and new technical advances provide increased lifespan in patients with primary and metastatic colorectal carcinoma. Consequently, the frequency of miscellaneous tumor-related or postoperative complications in patients with colorectal carcinoma has risen. Over the past few years, apart from diagnostic imaging, interventional radiological methods have evolved and played a big role in the diagnosis and management of colorectal malignancy. Image-guided biopsy and drainages have become routine procedures in daily practice of interventional radiology. Cytological samples are obtained by fine needle aspiration biopsy, whereas tissue samples are obtained by core biopsies. Percutaneous abscess drainage, urinary and biliary drainages, and colonic stenting in obstructions can improve general condition of critically ill colorectal cancer patients and can be used either for palliation or as an opportunity to undergo definitive surgery in a better condition. Arterial embolization in case of intractable bleeding can be life-saving. In this chapter, the comprehensive role of interventional radiology including percutaneous biopsy and management of complications such as fluid collection, colonic obstruction, biliary obstruction, urinary obstruction, and acute bleeding in general practice of colorectal cancer is reviewed.
