Özet
Different surgical treatment modalities have been described for treatment of sinus pilonidalis. But none of them has been successful in long- term since more conservative modalities have been in research. Phenol application was carried out for 103 patients with sinus pilonidalis between 1996 and 1998 in Gulhane Military Medical Academy General Surgery Department. 103 patients phenol group, and 100 patients, surgery group were evaluated according to age, sex, orifice number of sinuses, volume of the pouches, lost of time from work and recurrence. The results were compared with both groups. Recurrence rates were 5.8 % in phenol and 11 % in surgery group. Wound healing time was found 7.93 days in phenol and 17.67 days in surgery group lost of time from work was 7.72 days in phenol and 40.78 days in surgery group. As a result, phenol application treatment for pilonidal sinus is effective, cheap and satisfactory in comparison to surgical treatment.
