Özet

Light reflected from the different layers of the precorneal tear film produces interference patterns. Evaluation of the interference pattern from the lipid layer is a useful method for assessing tear film stability. In the present study, 34 normal and 31 dry eyes were examined by non-contact specular microscopy and their interference patterns photographed. The results were evaluated together with the tear function tests. In dry eyes whose tear break-up time (BUT) and Schirmer I test were pathologic the interference patterns were more intensively colored, because of the relatively thick lipid layer. In contrast, the interference patterns in cases with normal tear function were colorless.
