Özet

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of Turkish version of the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Ninety-nine subjects were included to the study. Fifty-six of the subjects were schizophrenic patients and 43 subjects were healthy volunteers as the control group. All subjects received FAB, Color Trail Test (CTT) and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). Results: As a measure of concurrent validity, FAB scores showed significant correlation between the CTT first trial (CTT-1), CTT second trial (CTT-2), number of completed categories in WCST and number of perseverative errors in WCST (r=0.58, p<0.001; r=0.53, p<0.001; r=0.45, p<0.001; r=0.77, p<0.001; respectively). Regarding a validity of discriminating power for specific groups, the results showed that schizophrenic individuals performed significantly worse than healthy controls. The FAB showed acceptable test-retest reliability (r=0.71, p=0.001) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha: 0.65). Conclusions: The tests for internal consistency, test-retest reliability, discriminating power for specific groups and concurrent validity of FAB have demonstrated that the Turkish version of FAB would be a reliable and valid instrument that could be used in study field of schizophrenia in Turkish population. © Universitätsverlag Ulm GmbH 2008.
