Özet

The study group consisted of 255 prostitutes working at a brothel in Ankara, in 1992. All vaginal specimens were examined under direct phase-contrast microscopy and with Trypticase-Yeast extract-Maltose (TYM) culture media. T. vaginalis was determined in 64 (25.09 %) of 255 prostitutes both by direct phase-contrast microscopy and with culture media. The patients who were positive for T. vaginalis were divided into two groups: one group of 40 patients received a single dose of 1.5 g ornidazole, while the other group of 24 patients receive a single dose of 2 g secnidazole. Treatment effective of secnidazole was 70.8 %., treatment effective of ornidazole was 95.0 %. There was no significant difference between the detection rates of direct phase-contrast microscopy and with culture for the identification T. vaginalis. Ornidazole seemed superior to secnidazole in its effectiveness to treat the infection (p<0.05, student t test). Incidence of Trichomoniosis, is related to the homogeneity of study groups, significance of the tests, regional climate, and local socio-economical conditions.
