Özet
Rabies is a neglected zoonotic disease that affects the central nervous system. Rabies is usually transmitted to humans by animal bites, and dogs are the most important vector worldwide. It is estimated that canine rabies causes approximately 59,000 deaths annually. There are encephalitic and paralytic forms of the disease. Neuroimaging is nonspecific. Confirmatory diagnostic laboratory tests for rabies include the detection of neutralizing anti-rabies virus antibodies in serum or cerebrospinal fluid and rabies virus antigen or RNA in tissues or fluids. Rabies is virtually always fatal after the clinical disease develops, and there have been only a few survivors.
