Dysphagia management of pediatric patients with cerebral palsy

Özet
Cerebral palsy (CP) is an established complex of symptoms of motor disorders with neurological signs resulting from brain damage. The most common manifestations include reduced muscle tone, poor feeding and epileptic seizures. Various rehabilitation modalities are used for oral motor functioning deficits. In this study, the Castillo-Morales device was used on seven children with CP for dysphagia management. At the completion of the therapy, children were able to close their lips during the day, their tongue was able to stay in their mouth and they were able to produce bilabial sounds. Finally, the results showed significant improvement in saliva control, higher consistency in food intake and decreased risk of aspiration.
