Özet

Objectives: Monitoring the growth and development of children is an important issue. As a matter of fact, in family health centers, it is stated in the relevant protocols and regulations that the students should be examined periodically by their family physicians every year. In this study, the results of school-age follow-ups in a family medicine unit were examined. Materials and Methods: Our study is a retrospective descriptive observational study. The follow-up data of all students who applied to a family medicine unit in Ankara between January 1- June 1, 2019, by referring from schools within the scope of the "Program for the Protection and Improvement of Health at School" were compiled and evaluated through the relevant family medicine information system. Results: 461 children were included in the study (230 of whom were boys and the mean of age was 11.87±3.33). The body mass index of children was found out of normal (48.15%(n:222)). Dental caries in 27.33%(n:126) of the students, visual impairment in 13.66%(n:63), obesity in 10.19%(n:47), hyperlipidemia in 4.72%(n:22) and anemia in 3.25%(n:15) were detected. Prehypertension was detected in 4 children whose blood pressure was measured, stage 1 hypertension was detected in 2 children while hearing test result was found to have hearing loss in 3 students. Conclusion: In the family medicine unit where the study was conducted, it was observed that the number of school-age follow-up of children increased from 3% to 45% in 5 months with the contribution of the relevant program compared to previous periods. By applying such protocols, the number of school-age follow-ups will increase and many diseases such as growth and development abnormalities, hypertension, dyslipidemia, visual and hearing disorders, and oral and dental health problems will be diagnosed early and/or prevented by risk management like in our study.
