Repair of the persistent cerebrospinal fluid leak

Özet
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea is an important and well recognized clinical entity that results when the integrity of the dura is breached at the cranial base. Trauma to the head and extensive surgery of the anterior cranial base are the most common causes of this condition. The possibility of life-threatening intracranial infections, such as meningitis, necessitates diagnosis, identification of the site of leakage, and prompt medical or surgical intervention. In recent years, the development of endoscopic nasal surgery and free tissue transfer has enabled surgeons to eliminate CSF rhinorrhea using either endonasal or intracranial approaches. We review the data on repair of CSF leakage and present our algorithm for CSF management based on this data.
