Özet
Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection that occurs in both humans and animals. More than one-third of the global population is estimated to be infected with this parasite. In healthy adults, approximately half of the infection cases are asymptomatic. However, it can present as a nonspecific illness with mild symptoms such as fever, fatigue, malaise, and tender lymphadenopathy. Congenital toxoplasmosis (CT), resulting from vertical transmission from infected mothers, can be asymptomatic but may also lead to significant morbidity and mortality in the fetal, neonatal and childhood periods. Since the infection is often asymptomatic in pregnant women, it can only be detected through serological methods. Education and serological screening of pregnant women are essential for the prevention, diagnosis, and early treatment of infections in infants. Early treatment has been shown to significantly improve the clinical outcomes of the infection.
