Özet

We performed a prospective study to assess the comparative effects of propofol and thiopentone in reducing the succinylcholine-induced myalgia in 50 patients (17 women, 33 men) with mean age of 27 (14-40) undergoing acute appendectomy. The patients were divided into two groups, the first group had propofol (2 mg/kg) and the second thiopentone (5 mg/kg). The intubation was performed after relaxation with succinylcholine (1 mg/kg). No analgesics were used pre- and postoperatively. In the postoperative period neck, shoulder and chest myalgia were accepted as a result of succinylcholine administration and were evaluated with VAS (visual analogue scale). In the propofol group the VAS = 0 results at the 24th hour were P (%60), T (%40) and were significantly different (p<0.05), at 48th and 72nd hours there were no differences. The reasons of succinylcholine-induced myalgias are not evident; however to reduce the incidence of these myalgias, as a result we consider that propofol is significantly better than thiopentone.
