Özet
The most important anatomical and physiological part of the nose and sinuses is the sinonasal mucosa. The main goal of endoscopic sinus surgery is to remove the disease in the nose and sinuses, with preservation of mucosa and improvement of mucociliary transport. The idea of minimally invasive surgery is to perform surgery only to relieve the obstruction in the osteomeatal complex (OMC) area, with minimal damage to normal tissue. This is of utmost importance because of preservation of the nasal mucosa, and thus the sinonasal physiology. Besides, less destructive surgery minimizes complications such as scarring while maintaining important anatomic landmarks that could be needed in any possible future intervention.
