Visualization of fat in the intussusception: Lipoma or mesenteric adipose tissue?

Özet
We present two distal colonic intussusception cases, one with a colonic lipoma, the other with mesenteric adipose tissue inside the lumen; both cases had similar US and CT appearances. The purpose of this article is to emphasize that normal mesenteric adipose tissue in the intussusception may simulate a lipoma and to remind that the presence of fat echogenicity/density is not sensitive enough to make the diagnosis of a lipoma by US and CT. Our case is a good example and we could find no such report in literature. The diagnosis of lipoma in an intussusception should be made precautiously based on radiological features alone. © 2006 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
