Serum copeptin levels in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare serum copeptin levels in patients with chronic sinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) with those of healthy volunteers. Methods: Serum copeptin levels were determined using ELISA in 24 patients with CRSwNP and 20 healthy volunteers without CRSwNP (control group). The study was conducted by the Outpatient Clinic of the Otorhinolaryngology Department of Antalya Training and Research Hospital and included subjects aged over 18 years who were visited for nasal and postnasal discharge, nasal stuffiness, facial pain ongoing for at least 12 weeks and CRS with or without nasal polyps. Results: A total of 44 subjects, 28 males (63.6%) and 16 females (36.4%) with a mean age of 38.7± 13.8 years (range, 20 - 69 years) were included in the study and divided in a treatment group (24 patients with nasal polyposis) and a control group (20 healthy subjects). No statistically significant differenc ewas evidenced between the groups in terms of copeptin levels. Conclusions: Increased serum copeptin concentration may reflect a response to stress in various diseases. No difference was determined between the CRSwNP patients and the healthy volunteers in terms of copeptin levels.
