Özet
Introduction: Human milk is an optimal nutritional source which is accepted all over the World. Especially, positive effects of nourishing preterm newborn with breast feeding on several health problems (necrotizing enterocolitis etc.) have been demonstrated with various studies. Purpose: In this study, we purposed to compare preterm and term newborn mothers' breast milk samples in biochemical aspect and to stabilize routine parameters in different days of lactation. Materials and methods: Accordingly, breast milk samples were collected from randomly selected 58 mothers at 3, 7, and 28th day of lactation by electric pump between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. before nourishing baby and only one breast. Total protein, albumin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, iron, iron binding capacity, magnesium and phosphor were measured from these samples with enzymatic colorimetric method. Results: Variety of total protein, albumin, triglyceride, total cholesterol, iron, magnesium, levels and iron binding capacity were evaluated significantly in breast milk samples at 3, 7, and 28th day of lactation. Conclusions: Consequently, it is evaluated that the human milk composition is conspicuously affected by gestational age and lactation. As distinct from the other parameters, it is evaluated that the high cholesterol level in preterm group milk samples may play an important role for neonatal rapid maturation. 2009 © TurkJBiochem.com.
