Özet
Human infections with Rickettsia species remain a major global health issue, causing significant morbidity and mortality. Rickettsia are small, obligately intracellular, gramnegative bacteria. Like most obligate intracellular bacteria, they cannot be cultured axenically. The problems in culturing and manipulating these bacteria have slowed down the development of our understanding of their biology. Over the past two decades we have seen significant advances in rickettsia that have revealed unique molecular mechanisms underlying the infectious life cycles of rickettsia. In this chapter, the pathogenesis of rickettsia will be explained.
