Özet
The use of diagnostic imaging methods in pregnant and breastfeeding women has increased considerably in recent years. As there is no ionizing radiation exposure associated with ultrasonography (US), it has been used safely for many years in pregnant women. In some cases, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be required to make a final diagnosis, and this situation may also require an injection of intravenous contrast agents. If pregnant and lactating women are not sufficiently informed about the safety of these imaging modalities, they may be concerned about having these diagnostic tests and continuing to breastfeed. In this chapter, the potential risks to the fetus or infant associated with maternal exposure to radiation, high magnetic field, or iodinated and gadolinium-based contrast media during pregnancy or breastfeeding will be evaluated.
