Özet
It is known that oxidative stress, free radical generation, and lipid peroxidation contribute to brain injury. Chronic oxidative and nitrosative stress and resultant neuroinflammation lead to neurodegeneration and trigger cellular defense mechanisms that result in brain injury. The oxidative stress-related mechanisms play a role in both monitoring the regenerative processes and arranging the therapeutic approaches in neurodegenerative disorders and peripheral neuronal injuries. Studies involving traditional herbal medicine in nerve regeneration have increasingly kept up-to-date. In this chapter, neurodegenerative disorders and peripheral neuronal injuries, in which oxidative stress is known to play a major role in etiopathogenesis, and the effects of Ginkgo biloba (EGb761) as an antioxidant, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, on neuronal regeneration in these pathologies are reviewed.
