Özet
Cervical insufficiency is defined as painless cervical dilation in the second trimester. Cervical insufficiency is seen with a frequency of approximately 1% in the obstetric population. Cervical structural weakness has been suggested as a possible mechanism of cervical insufficiency. Causes include acquired causes or, more rarely, congenital abnormalities. The diagnostic criteria used today are based on three main pathologies. These are the history of classic cervical insufficiency in the previous pregnancy, the presence of a short cervix in the current pregnancy with a history of second-trimester pregnancy loss, the detection of cervical dilation and effacement without uterine contractions in the physical examination of the current pregnancy.
