Özet

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had adverse effects on both the physical and mental health of societies. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between COVID-19 fear level and dental health knowledge and health anxiety of dental patients during the pandemic process. Methods: The data for the study were collected with a questionnaire applied to 241 patients who came to Afyonkarahisar Oral and Dental Health Center in March 2021. Statistical analysis was performed using the T-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation tests. A value of p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The participants' health anxiety (1.87 ± 0.59) and fear of COVID-19 (2.56 ± 0.54) were found to be moderate. According to the data, fear of COVID-19 and health anxiety showed statistically significant correlation. (p = 0.001). There was a strong positive correlation between fear of COVID-19 and knowledge-based attitude (p = 0.014) and behavior (p < 0.001) about oral and dental health. Health anxiety scores did not correlate with knowledge-based attitudes and behavior levels about oral and dental health (p > 0.05). According to the results, females COVID-19 fear, health anxiety, and knowledge of oral and dental health was higher than males. Conclusion: It has been observed that the pandemic caused more anxiety in women, and this process has caused concern about the maintenance of dental health in a part of the society.
