Özet

In this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of midazolam + atropine and midazolam + ketamine + atropine combinations given rectally and to detect the side effects of these combinations. After the family approval, 40 pediatric cases (2-10 years old) who underwent minor surgical procedures, were divided randomly into 2 groups of 20. Sedation levels of cases, were recorded before premedication as 0 minute level. Group I (n=20) cases were given midazolam 0.3 mg/kg + 0.02 mg/kg atropine, Group II (n=20) cases were given midazolam 0.3 mg/kg + ketamine 3 mg/kg + 0.02 mg/kg atropine rectally via an applicator before 30-45 minutes of surgery. Sedation levels in 0, 10th, 20th and 30th minutes were assessed by a 6 grade scale. Separation from parents, take into the operation room, IV cannulation and face mask reactions were noted. Postoperative sedation levels and the time to leave the recovery room were also recorded. Sedation levels of Group II were significantly higher than of Group I in the 10th 20th and 30th minutes (p<0.05). Cannulation IV route and induction of anaesthesia by face mask were more satisfactory in Group II than in Group I. We concluded that rectally administered midazolam + ketamine + atropine would be a reliable premedication in children providing a good preoperative sedation, increase the tolerability of invasive procedures easily and provides a good recovery.
