Özet
Malingering is intentional production of false or exaggerated symptoms motivated by external incentives. It is not considered a form of mental illness or psychopathology, although it can occur in the context of other mental illnesses. Despite the evidence that illness deception can begin prior to adulthood, the phenomenon of illness falsification by children and adolescents has received surprisingly limited attention. There have been very few studies regarding deceptive behavior with children and adolescents and most such research consists of individual case studies. The etiology of deceptive behavior in humans is a learned behavior as far as is known. However in the near future, studies will shed light on whether or not there are genetic factors that contribute to a person's potential for acquiring and engaging in deceptive behavior. © 2010 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
