Özet
Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), affecting 2-26/1000 live births per year, points a major reason for neonatal mortality and morbidity worldwide (Lee et al., 2013). Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is a well-tolerated, evidence-based treatment in HIE. Although the implementation of TH requires professional and technical experience, it is accepted as a standard therapy and became commonly available universally. TH provided a significant decrease in mortality and neurological sequelae in newborns with mild to severe HIE. Recent advances on HIE, including TH, even stem cells, improved but did not completely prevent, all of the related morbidities. Thus, further scientific work is required for improving the quality of life future with noval therapies in combination with TH.
